Do you feel your manuscript falls short of the vision you had for it? Perhaps you haven’t yet finished your draft but have found yourself stuck. A developmental edit provides detailed big-picture feedback to help you finish writing the novel you’re aspiring to write.
Regroup and move forward
A developmental edit helps you see where your manuscript is currently and provides guidance on bridging the gap to where you want it to be. If you’re feeling frustrated that your manuscript isn’t all that you’d hoped, a developmental edit gives you insight into the specifics of what’s working, what’s not working and what you need to change – with suggestions on how you might revise your manuscript that are backed up with solid writing theory.
A tailored service
The term ‘developmental editing’ covers a broad spectrum of services. Do you have a complete or incomplete draft? Do you want several rounds of editing and feedback on redrafted material? Would you like feedback only on specific elements of your book? Do you want a page-by-page commentary or an analytical write-up of major issues that need to be addressed? Let me know what you want from working with a developmental editor, and we can come up with a plan designed specifically for you.
I have a good understanding of the conventions of most genres, but I specialise in fantasy, sci-fi, speculative fiction, YA and literary fiction. I’m not so hot with sword and sorcery or military science fiction, but I do love a good dystopia, post-apocalyptic tale or a story full of magical realism.
